Keybearers

The Keybearers are a group devoted to the eradication of the Fangirl menace, based in an underground complex built beneath the halls of an abandoned church somewhere in central Europe.  The group was founded around the year 1998 by Ansem, who had split off from the Fangirl research team that eventually became Organization XIII due to his fear of the strange powers that his assistant Xehanort was beginning to develop.  Looking back to ancient tales of the mythical χ-blade, a weapon that would appear before a certain chosen individual in desperate times and possessed the power to end wars and change the world singlehandedly, Ansem made use of a bit of wordplay with one possible pronunciation of "χ" and crafted a weapon in the shape of a key -- a "Keyblade."

The Keybearers fight using this technology rather than drawing upon elemental powers and summoning weapons like the members of Organization XIII, falling back on something more closely resembling standard military strategy (with many weaker soldiers often being sent to back up smaller groups of elite Keybearers known as "Keyblade Masters") rather than the more unconventional methods used by the Organization.  Though the membership of the Keybearers is in the hundreds, the vast majority are ordinary soldiers with no spectacular skill, relying entirely on the strength boost provided by their Keyblades to destroy Fangirls.  Whereas most of the Organization's members could reach great heights with enough training, the majority of the Keybearers would never develop into superhuman warriors even after a lifetime's worth of practice.

Members

As with Organization XIII, the membership of the Keybearers is divided up into a leadership group of elite warriors and a larger group of lower-ranking and (usually) weaker soldiers.  In the Keybearers, the highest-ranking members aside from Ansem himself (who, in his old age and frailty, could not pass the Mark of Mastery exam to qualify) are the Keyblade Masters, with a particular group nicknamed the "Elementals" due to the fact that their names are Latin words for the four classical elements.

As mentioned above, the Keybearers are a much larger group than Organization XIII; as such, listing every last member of the group would be extremely difficult.  Instead, only members who have great authority in the group (such as the Keyblade Masters) or others who stand out in some way will be listed here.

 Technology

Whereas the Organization is merely aided by their technology, the Keybearers are defined by it -- their very name derives from the fact that its members wield the weapons known as Keyblades, which were developed by Ansem as an improvement over conventional weaponry that did not require delving into areas that the old man felt uncomfortable with, like the sort of powers that Xehanort had displayed to him before the split in their Fangirl research group.

In addition to the advanced technologies mentioned below, the Keybearers also make use of a number of more mundane techniques to track Fangirl activity and movement patterns.  By monitoring web traffic and tapping phone lines much like the Organization did in the early years before the construction of the Fangirl Detection System, they are able to predict the appearance of a Fangirl swarm ahead of time and send troops out to deal with it; in the case of swarms appearing near their home base, they have even managed to reach the swarm site before Organization XIII members did from time to time despite the lack of a means of near-instantaneous transportation like the Dimensional Hippievan.
